Want to learn more about the people "behind the numbers"? Today we'd like to introduce you to Ryan Benton, one of our accountants and tax preparers.
A 14-year veteran of the City of Stockton Police Department, Ryan suffered an on the job injury and was forced to retire. Having some background in accounting and previous knowledge of All About Numbers, he joined our team full-time in early 2014.
Ryan says that as a police officer, one of the things he liked most about the job was when he was able to help people, and that has followed into his accounting career as well. Rather than being involved in a crisis in their lives, he's now able to assist with some of the happier events, such as getting a tax refund.
Ryan's primary focus with All About Numbers is addressing the specialized needs of our Clergy clients, including ministers, missionaries and other religious workers. Ryan is also expanding our services for law enforcement and other first responders - a natural fit given his background.
In his spare time, Ryan enjoys playing guitar, including playing the National Anthem twice at Stockton Thunder hockey games. He's a regular racquetball player and operates a photography business on the side. When he's not following those pursuits he's probably hanging out with his wife, Carla, and their two young children, aged 8 and 6.
When asked about one of his favorite stories of helping a client, Ryan related the following situation. "I had a client who had not filed their taxes for several years. They had intended to, and wanted to, but as time went on, it became harder and harder for them because the problem was getting bigger and bigger. They came and consulted with me, and together, we assembled all of their paperwork, completed their returns and now they are on track and I am working with them to better their tax situation for the future. When they came in and first saw me, they were scared and stressed. But after getting on top of the problem and fixing it, they are now confident and happy."
Ryan's diligent, focused attention to the particular needs of each of his clients makes him a valuable member of our team here at All About Numbers. If you would like to speak to Ryan about your tax or accounting needs, you can reach him in the office at 209.955.2244, or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
